Kilcommon Pilgrim Loop – Pilgrim Paths Day Event – April 4th 2015

Details: 2.pm. Sign in at new WindWalker Hub, Kilcommon Community Hall. Welcome and introduction to the new MYTHIC MAP EXHIBITION of KILCOMMON PILGRIM LOOP WALK by Fr. Dan Woods, P.P.Kilcommon Portal Map

The Mythic Map (see picture) is a mixed media artwork representing the Seven Sacred Portals of the pilgrim loop walk referencing the heritage of the Slieve Felims from pre Christian to modern times. The map artwork was commissioned by Kilcommon Community Council from the artist Desmond Dillon who spend time exploring the Kilcommon Pilgrim Loop Walk and working with the children of the local primary school in the creation of a supporting exhibition in response to local stories from the National Folklore Collection, UCD. The Mythic Map and Childrens Exhibition will presented as part of National Pilgrim Paths Day at Kilcommon Commuity Hall.

2.30: Commencment of Walk led by Fr. Dan Woods and Fr. Enda Brady via Kilcommon Prayer Gardens where walkers will be blessed from the waters of St. Cuimin’s Holy Well as they set out on their Easter Saturday journey across the old Mass Path and mountains to the Mass Rock at Laghile.

4.00. Gathering with readings and musical reflections curated to explore the meaning of Holy Saturday. The Pascal flame will be lit at the Mass Rock and will be distributed to the three churches of Kilcommon Parish for the lighting of the Pascal Fire later that evening – Kilcommon, Rearcross and Hollyford.

5.pm. Return with the flame via the raised Mass Path to Kilcommon Prayer Garden where the flame will be maintained until the commencment of the Pascal Cermony at St. Patrick’s Church at 8pm.

5.30: Communal light meal of soup and locally baked breads with tea/coffe and traditional hot cross buns at Kilcommon Community Hall.

8pm PASCAL MYSTERY CERMONY
